Has anyone gotten their hands on these recently? I am looking find another stick and due to another commitment I will not be able to get up to Spey Nation this year.... Darn Family Commitments!!! I am looking to see if the improvements that I heard about for these really are true... Echo/Rajeff were to make this line a bit snappier and more responsive then the first DH line, but still have a meduim action by stiffening the butt section. I won't be able to get up to the river until after this fall, but looking to see what others have thought about this line...

Dave: I just ordered the 12'6" 6 weight from the "Caddis Fly Shop" out in Oregon. I'll let you know how it compares to my other 2 DECHO rods. The price went up but buying through this store there was no sales tax or shipping fees and it comes with a free Airflo Skagit compact head. ~Paul

Thanks Fishtech!!! I really am impressed with those guys out there time amd time again. I have gone to them to get specific materials and have spoken with Jay multiple times on the phone. Very good service and I'll continue to use them. Their videos on youtube are pretty good. They ahve 1 guy on there who ties and chews gum which I don't care for, but Jay's ties are very easy to follow and the explinations that he gives are great. Tony's I really am still out on, mostly since it is a say 1 thing yet do the opposite. If you have a minute check them out too. Oregon Fly fishing blog.....

have had the 13' 7 weight for a month or two now and I love it! I took it to the west branch of the Delaware this past weekend and took a few nice browns on it

Would you say it is more lively than the last version but still has a medium action like the old DH models from Echo Riverright?

I only casted the old version once and that was only a few casts, so I really couldn't tell you in comparison. it does however have a very nice medium action

I've cast both in the 7wt version ,the newer version is a bit more crisp ,but not as stiff as the rajeff 7wt which I think is a great rod as well. If your looking for a rod with more room for airborne casts the Dec 2 should fit the bill. I like the rajeff 7wt more as a winter rod with sink tips ,but I like the rod to do more work in the winter then me

I tested out my new Dec Hogan II 12'6" 6wt. this morning at the UFZ on the Salmon River. I have 3 of the older model Dec Hogan spey rods from ECHO and have to say that there are some improvements in the new model. The hardware (line guides) seem to have been upgraded and the cork in the handle is flawless! So you do get something out of the price increase! The cloth rod sock also is of a better quality. The rod is definitely faster than the older models but not overly so. I only had a Skagit compact 450gr. head that came with the rod to cast today which was too much line for the low water conditions. For summer fishing I'm going to get an Airflo Rage compact head of 420gr. for this rod.

The rage is a sweet line I would go to a lighter weight for a 6wt though I have a 450 on a 7wt switch and it is to much. I could go down to a 420 or possibly a 390. This line in 450 casts excellently off of a vision 12'2 catapult. So I would think on 12' 6wt a 390 would work the best. It could also depend on the rod weather it is fast action or medium action
